This is the cornerstone of the album. It's all about being stuck somewhere doing nothing when you know the world around you is turning and waiting for you to answer the unknown. It was inspired by a line in Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" where he talks about how amazing it felt to be at the mercy of the American Night during his trek across the country in the 1940's.
lyrics
I could tell more than anything else
All I'd ever get from this city was a letdown
How will you ever know just what you wanna be
When everything around you
Is only half as deep as you'd want to see
Well maybe it's around here
All I want to do is waste away
Turn the page on another day
But it's too soon
Lack of clarity has bled me dry
All I crave is the American Night
So dark and true
How will you ever know just what you wanna be
When everything around you
Is only half as deep as you'd want to see
Well maybe it's around here
How will you ever know just what you wanna be
When everything around you
(All I want to do is waste away)
Is only half as deep as you'd want to see
(Turn the page on another day)
Well maybe it's around here
How will you ever know just what you wanna be
(All I want to do is waste away)
Maybe it's around here
(Turn the page on another day)
